SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Police have identified the teen girl who died after getting hit by a pickup truck Wednesday afternoon in Scottsdale.
Sgt. Mark Clark with Scottsdale police said the victim was 16-year-old Quinn West of Desert Mountain High School.
Clark with Scottsdale police said West and her 16-year-old best friend Alex were crossing Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard at Desert Cove Avenue around noon, just north of Shea Boulevard, at the time of the crash.
Clark said a Ford pickup truck, driven by 16-year-old Zachary Zucchini, did not stop and struck the girls as they crossed in front of him. The driver was not hurt.
Authorities said Zucchini did not see the girls as they crossed the street.
Both girls were rushed to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center where West later died. Alex suffered severe road rash and an injured foot.
"I can't believe this happened," Alex said. "She loved to smile. I don't know what I'm going to do without her."
Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard was shut down in both directions from Desert Cove to Shea Boulevard as crews worked to clear the scene.
Police do not believe speed or impairment were involved. Clark said citations or charges are still pending while police continue to investigate.
A fundraiser for West will be held at the Yogurtology shop at Frank Lloyd Wright and Thompson Peak Parkway on Thursday and Friday. An account has also been set up at Arizona Bank and Trust in West's name.
