SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A portion of Loop 101 in the East Valley has reopened after police were able to talk down a man standing on an overpass.
According to the Department of Public Safety, officers were on the scene at Thomas Road where a person was sitting on the southbound side netting of the overpass.
Spokesman Raul Garcia said DPS negotiators were on the scene. Scottsdale police negotiators also assisted in the incident.
Scottsdale police said around 11:30 a.m. that the man had been talked down from the ledge and is on his way to get help.
The freeway is now reopening, but traffic may still be delayed due to the long backup.
Traffic was being taken off the freeway and routed around the incident as drivers were urged to exit the roadway well ahead of Thomas Road.
