DUI cases called into question following blood-testing blunder

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Hundreds of DUI cases from the past four years could be called into question by a legal effort challenging the accuracy of the Scottsdale Police Department's blood-testing equipment.

Eleven felony DUI cases have been consolidated into an ongoing evidentiary hearing examining whether a lab technician's actions compromised evidence. The hearing began Monday.

The technician installed old software onto a new blood-testing machine in 2009, possibly resulting in faulty results in the DUI cases in question.

Scottsdale police issued a statement Friday saying the lab has been accredited since 1996 because its standards of maintaining equipment met or exceeded national standards.
