Elderly woman and dog killed in townhome fire in Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, AZ -

An elderly woman and her pet poodle died after a fire at a townhouse early Sunday morning, according to the Scottsdale Fire Department.

The incident happened at the home near Hayden and Camelback roads around 5:30 a.m. Neighbors reported hearing a smoke alarm coming from the home.

Fire officials say power lines in the area went down but no outages were reported.

Emergency crews attempted to save the woman on scene and transported her to a local medical center where she died.

Her identity has not been released at this time.

Scottsdale Fire said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
