Crews working to extinguish small fire in the Tonto National Forest

TONTO NATIONAL FOREST, AZ - Officials with the Tonto National Forest will work overnight to fully contain a fire that started Wednesday evening.

Tammy, spokesman for the Tonto National Forest, said the so-called Rio Fire started at 5:23 p.m. and is burning near the Needle Rock Recreation Area.

The fire has grown to 21 acres and is 30 percent contained. She said crews have stopped the forward spread ot he fire and will be working throughout the night to hopefully get it completely contained and extinguished.

She said the fire is located on the east side of Verde River.

She said 1 helicopter, 1 air attack crew and four engines are working the fire.

No other details were released.
