A Scottsdale father was sentenced to 23 years in prison in the death of his year-old son.

Judge David Cunanan also sentenced Brokale Marques to three years of supervised probation for child abuse and attempted child abuse. He previously changed his plea to guilty in the case.

Police said in September 2013 Marques left his year-old son inside a locked and hot car while he went to work because he was on a schedule and could not find a babysitter.

He took the child to lunch and left him in the car with the air-conditioning on. Later, he turned the air-conditioning off and returned back to work.

After work he found his son "unconscious, vomit on his chest, and head slumped over," according to police records. The child died at the hospital.
