Attempted burglar caught on camera by Scottsdale business surveillance video

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - The owners of Theater X in Scottsdale hope surveillance video caught on their building cameras will help get an attempted burglary suspect off the streets.

James May said a couple of employees at his business first noticed something wrong Friday morning.

"They came back to get in the van and the window was broken," he said.

Fortunately for him and his business, they have surveillance cameras so they decided to take a look at that night's video.

May described what he saw when he watched the video back. "He's driving in and pulls next to the van."

At around 9:30 p.m. the man parks the U-Haul marked truck, gets out, grabs something in the bed of the vehicle and puts it in the passenger side. He then gets back in.

May then said the driver "backs out then turns around and then back up right next to the van."

That's when the suspect tried to pop out the window of the van with some sort of tool to get inside. He was unsuccessful. The alarm on the van goes off and the man drove away empty-handed.

May says the suspect could've gotten away with tens of thousands of dollars' worth of tools and equipment.

Now he just wants him off the streets.

"It was good that we got him on video, I just wish we were actually able to identify the guy," May said.

He plans on adding high-definition cameras and electronic gates so his company doesn't become a victim.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Scottsdale Police Department.
