28 Chihuahuas from Arizona adopted in 90 minutes at Idaho adoption event

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - On Wednesday morning 40 Chihuahuas said goodbye to the Valley of the Sun as they left Scottsdale Airport on a plane headed to Idaho.

HALO Animal Rescue partnered with Dog Is My Co-Pilot to give these little ones a second chance on life.

While Chihuahuas are popular in Arizona, in states like Idaho and Wyoming the breed is difficult to find and in high demand.

And in demand they were.

Within the first 90 minutes of the adoption event at the All Valley Animal Rescue in Meridian, ID, 28 of the 40 dogs were adopted.

Jared Wright from HALO said, “there’s not as many small dogs there so we are trying to get them out there into good homes.”

HALO partners with the Arizona Humane Society and with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control and selected these Chihuahuas because they had been in the shelters for a while.

Judy Zimet with Dog Is My Co-Pilot said they "will fly them as many as they need" in regards to the over supply of Chihuahuas in Arizona and the demand for them in other states.

For those here in Phoenix looking for a home, there are plenty of animals still available at HALO, MCACC, AHS and AAWL.
