PARADISE VALLEY, AZ - Authorities are investigating how a woman's vehicle ended up submerged in a canal near Paradise Valley early this morning.
Phoenix police received 911 calls around 2 a.m. Sunday morning reporting a woman screaming in the area.
When authorities arrived they found a white vehicle floating in a canal near 32nd Street and Camelback Road and a 29-year-old woman stranded on the hood of the vehicle.
Emergency crews were able to rescue the woman using a ladder and said she was cold, according to Phoenix Fire. She is expected to be OK.
Authorities believe the woman may have been driving under the influence and made a wrong turn near 40th Street when she ended up driving into the canal.
Police said the vehicle apparently floated down the canal until it came to a stop near 32nd Street and Camelback.
Police said the vehicle showed obvious signs of damage causing the airbags to deploy.
Although police do not know the reason for the incident, they believe the woman was under the influence of alcohol at the time. That remains under investigation.
No other details were released.
