Paradise Valley couple were bound, shot in head

PARADISE VALLEY, AZ - Newly unsealed court documents show a Paradise Valley couple found murdered in their burning home in January died of gunshots to the head and smoke inhalation.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Douglas Rayes on Tuesday ordered the release of previously heavily redacted court documents about the arrests of seven people in the case.

The Arizona Republic says the documents show 77-year-old Glenna Shapiro died of two .22 caliber gunshot wounds to the head and 79-year-old Lawrence Shapiro died of smoke inhalation but also had been shot.

The documents also state that the philanthropist couple had their wrists and feet bound with television cables, speaker wire and a heating pad cord.

The Shapiros were found dead in the master bedroom in their burning home on Jan. 30.
