Garth Brooks visits Valley for Phoenix Children's Hospital charity

PARADISE VALLEY, AZ - A local family brought a music super star to the Valley to help raise $1 million for charity, but an unexpected death almost canceled it all together.

Phoenix Children's Hospital helped save Wendy and Mike Beninato's premature triplets. Mike planned a huge fundraiser with country star Garth Brooks to help make the lives of other children at the hospital better.

Out of nowhere, Mike died suddenly from an illness. His family, especially his wife Wendy was not expecting it.

Wendy was left alone to take care of their three seven-year-old children. The emotional weight of her husband Mike's loss, as well as dealing with the triplets, was understandably very hard on Wendy.

The charity event was looking doubtful, but Wendy dug her heels in, and with the help of friends, they got the million dollar fundraiser back on track.

"For a short time I thought, 'I don't know how I'm going to make this happen, but I wanted to live out Mike's dream," Wendy said.

The event was a success. Garth Brooks played a special concert Friday night at Michael Dominick's Steakhouse to benefit the Phoenix Children's Hospital. The event was in honor of Wendy's husband Mike.
