A Scottsdale firefighter was burned Wednesday evening helping fight a first-alarm fire in Paradise Valley.

Firefighters from Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa responded to a home near 64th Street between Shea Blvd. and Double Tree Ranch Road around 9 p.m. and found it in heavy flames.

The intensity of the fire forced firefighters to fight it defensively, while also protecting nearby homes, said Phoenix Fire Captain Ardell Deliz.

Air15 video showed flames coming from one home and smoke appearing to come from another.

No one was home when the fire broke out, but four people will have to find temporary housing, he said.

Pets and animals were safely penned in the backyard by firefighters and were not hurt. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
