NEW RIVER, AZ - A marijuana grow house was discovered Thursday morning in New River.
According to Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Brandon Jones, the home is a grow house with marijuana plants inside.
Daisy Mountain fire was initially called to the home at 22nd Street and Circle Mountain Road around 7 a.m. after a fire started in the bedroom of the house. The fire eventually moved to the attic.
Jones said firefighters reported finding an elaborate marijuana grow operation consisting of 12 to 20 plants of various sizes in the room.
"I just can't believe it. My son rides his dirt bike around the neighborhood," said a neighbor, Shellie Foster. "I don't want that stuff near him. I don't want that stuff around him."
Detectives got access to the home around noon and after firefighters checked the home, sheriff's detectives counted 12 plants that appeared to be marijuana. They also found a CO2 tank, a drip system, lighting, heaters, and the room sealed wall to wall with Styrofoam insulation
Jones said there was no one inside the home at the time of the fire and that a neighbor said the homeowners are on vacation.
Jones said sheriff's detectives are continuing the investigation.
