CAVE CREEK, AZ - A 2-year-old boy was killed Wednesday evening after being struck by a recycling truck in the north Valley.
Officials said the accident happened around 4:10 p.m. near 40th Street and Lone Mountain Road.
Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies said the truck was backing down a narrow road when it struck the child.
Authorities said the boy's mom Sara Tarnanen and his siblings were outside playing when the accident happened.
Officials said the toddler was trying to get something off of his foot when the truck hit him.
His mom and siblings yelled at the driver to stop, but it was too late. Deputies said the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are questioning the recycling truck driver, 41-year-old Bernardo Hernandez, to gather more information.
It is too early to tell if any charges will be filed.
The name of the child is unavailable at this time.
