Officials, residents watch Black Canyon Creek for flood possibility

BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ - Officials in Yavapai County warned Monday of the possibility of flooding in the Black Canyon Creek if Monsoon rains continue.

The washes around Black Canyon City remained dry Monday night.

Teresa Badgley, who has lived and worked in the area for years, said flooding can cut off some areas from the rest of the town.

“A few years back, it was so bad that if flowed over the road completely,” Badgley said.

“The people on the other side of the little bridge right there could not get in or out.”

Another resident, Alex, who asked that we only use his first name, said the water rises quickly when it starts to flow.

He said people had to evacuate when the area flooded in 2010.
