YUMA, AZ - Border Patrol agents recovered nine bundles of marijuana after investigating reports of an ultra-light aircraft crossing the border from Mexico Saturday night.
Agents began tracking the aircraft around 11:30 p.m. and notified ground units the ultra-light was circling an area near Somerton, Arizona.
Agents arriving in the area shortly after midnight discovered five bundles of marijuana and an aircraft "drop cage." They found three more bundles beneath a tree a short distance away and a ninth bundle nearby.
Agents said the 209 pounds of pot, valued at $484,880, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Authorities said to avoid being caught, drug smugglers have sought alternate methods - such as using ultra-light aircraft - to deliver their illegal products to the United States.
