YUMA, AZ - A Yuma high school student is in hot water after authorities say he brought a gun to school Wednesday.
Yuma police spokeswoman Leanne Worthen said at around 11:08 am, officers responded to Gila Ridge High School near 24th Street and College Avenue to investigate a possible fight between two students.
When police arrived, they heard an 18-year-old student at the school may have a small caliber handgun in his possession.
The student admitted to authorities that he had a gun with him earlier that morning. Police found the unloaded gun after he admitted to dumping it into a garbage can.
The teen was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for possession of a deadly weapon at school.
Worthen said there was no indication the student meant to harm anyone.
