Border Patrol arrests 2 felons in S. Arizona

YUMA, AZ - Border Patrol agents in the Yuma Sector say they've arrested two felons from Mexico with extensive criminal histories.

The agents were patrolling Wednesday when they spotted two people near the international boundary along the Colorado River northeast of San Luis.

The two attempted to hide in a grove of trees, but were taken into custody for being in the country illegally.

The Border Patrol says background checks show Cosme Covarrubias-Villarreal has previously been convicted on charges of drug possession and distribution along with DUI and assault with a
deadly weapon.

Authorities say Gabriel Contreras-Garcia has been previously convicted on charges of drug possession and distribution, receiving stolen property and grand theft.
