Man allegedly assaults girlfriend with machete, breaks dogs leg

WICKENBURG, AZ - A man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend with a machete and broke their dog's leg Tuesday night in Wickenburg.

According to court documents, 60-year-old Timothy Megargee began assaulting his girlfriend after he informed her that he placed heroin in a cup of coffee he made for her.

Their argument reportedly turned into a physical fight when Megargee threw his girlfriend on a bed, grabbed her wrist and caused soft tissue damage.

Documents said Megargee continued to assault her by hitting her head and back and grabbed an 18-inch serrated machete and began swinging it over her body which caused cuts to her left hand.

The couple's small Dachshund was barking during the incident, so Megargee stopped swinging the machete, grabbed the animal and threw it out the door causing it to break a leg, according to the police report.

Police arrived to find the victim hiding in the front yard and Megargee hiding in a bathroom.

Police arrested Megargee and the victim was transported to the hospital.

Documents stated Megargee has threatened to harm his girlfriend and neighbors in the past.
