TUCSON, AZ - A woman suffered only minor injuries when a tree she was standing near was struck by lightning on Friday.
The 51-year-old was about 15 feet away from a tree on Mt. Lemmon in southern Arizona when it was struck by lightning, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
They released a photograph showing the damage done to the tree. They say that the broom in the photo shows where the woman was standing.
Authorities warn that it is best to stay as far away from trees during a lightning storm, at least getting into a vehicle if no building is immediately available.
