U.S. Representative Ron Barber recovering from cancer surgery

TUCSON, AZ - U.S. Representative Ron Barber is recovering Tuesday after having a cancerous tumor removed from his tongue.

Barber's spokesman Mark Kimble said Barber learned of the tumor on November 13.

Kimble said Barber will stay at his home in Tucson this week after having the surgery on Monday.

"Congressman Barber was released from the hospital earlier today (Tuesday) after a successful surgery," Barber's doctor, Audrey Erman, M.D., said. "He is expected to make a full recovery."

Kimble said Barber is feeling good and looking forward to getting back to work in Washington, D.C. next week.

Barber was a former aide to Gabrielle Giffords. Both were wounded in a January 2011 mass shooting in Tucson.
