Tucson dad delivers baby at home with help of 911 dispatcher

TUCSON, AZ - A Tucson dad is riding high on life after safely delivering his own baby when the newborn couldn't wait to get to a hospital.

Laura Fuller has taken 911 calls for 27 years but never a call like the one Saturday morning.

When she answered it was Frank Kunkel on the other end. "My wife is very pregnant and her water broke now she's feeling like she wants to push," he told Fuller.

She asked him if he could see the baby but he said all he could see was a little bit of blood.

Minutes later Kunkel said he could see the baby's head and he and Fuller urged mom to push. And then they heard the most beautiful sound - the baby crying.

Kunkel said, "As soon as he did that - I said well I'm going to go sit down for a minute."

Mom Lily and baby are both doing well.

Lily said, "Just amazing we delivered in the home of our entry way."

Fuller said dad never lost his composure. "He was awesome and so calm and cool and just excited."

"If I had to do it again I would want the same voice on the line that I had," Kunkel said of Fuller.

Now the whole family has an amazing tale to tell about the little boy's miracle delivery.

"I'm sure he will hear this story a lot growing up," said Lily.

The family hasn't named the healthy baby boy just yet. They said they will make a decision in the next few days.
