TUCSON, AZ - Two women are in custody for allegedly driving their vehicles with children aboard into flooded washes in Pima County, resulting in their rescues.
County Sheriff's officials said Monday that 18-year-old Tiffany N. Sherman is being held on suspicion of one count of child abuse. They say 29-year-old Edna K. Encinas is jailed on suspicion of three counts of child abuse and one count of reckless driving.
Sheriff's deputies rescued Sherman and her 1-month-old baby from a vehicle stuck in a wash Thursday night.
They say Encinas and her three children ages 2 to 11 were rescued Friday morning from another flooded area in the same San Xavier District.
In both cases, deputies say the women drove past posted road closure signs. It's unclear if either woman has a lawyer yet.
