Streets in Tucson reopen after bag checks out OK

TUCSON, AZ - Local streets adjacent to the federal courthouse in downtown Tucson have reopened after authorities checked out a suspicious item found in front of the courthouse Wednesday morning.

Police Sgt. Chris Widmer says the bomb squad used a water-shooting device to tear apart a canvass bag after an X-ray appeared to show electrical wires inside the bag.

Widmer says the bag didn't contain any explosives but that investigators are trying to determine why the bag was placed or left in front of the courthouse.

The two streets adjacent to the courthouse were closed for several hours during and after the morning commute as the bag was investigated.
