Rick Renzi upate: June 17 hearing in Seattle set on Renzi appeal

TUCSON, AZ - A federal appeals court panel has scheduled a June 17 hearing in Seattle to consider former Arizona Congressman Rick Renzi's appeals of his convictions on public-corruption and money-laundering charges.

A federal jury in Tucson convicted Renzi in June 2013 and a judge in December sentenced him to three years in prison. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is allowing Renzi to remain free pending the outcome of his appeal

Renzi, a Republican, represented Arizona's 1st Congressional District from 2003 to 2009.

He didn't run for re-election in 2008 while facing federal charges accusing him of looting a family insurance business to help pay for his 2002 campaign and of using his office for personal gain by pushing a proposed land exchange involving a co-defendant.
