TUCSON, AZ - State consumer-protection officials report they found numerous problems with scales used by some vendors at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show held in mid-February.
The Weights and Measures Department says most vendors at the show sold their goods by the piece and did not require use of scales to ensure the customers got what they paid for.
However, the department says it found problems with many of the 31 scales that it inspected.
It says 13 scales were seized because they weren't for use in commercial settings.
Other violations included missing tamperproof seals and having incorrect settings to the detriment of either the customer or the vendor.
