TUCSON, AZ - Thousands of dollars' worth of potato chips became potato crisps when a trailer caught fire on a Tucson road.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire early Thursday morning inside a 24-foot trailer just east of the I-10.
Northwest Fire spokesman Adam Goldberg says several 9-1-1 callers reported the fire near the intersection of Twin Peaks and Oasis roads shortly before 5:30 a.m.
The driver of the pick-up trucker hauling the trailer was not injured. Lanes on both roads were closed for about an hour.
Goldberg says the fire was caused by a mechanical failure with a trailer tire.
The trailer was carrying $6,000 worth of Poore Brothers potato chips for distribution to local grocery stores. Officials say the damages to the trailer as well as computers inside total $12,000.
