Meteor lights up Arizona sky Tuesday, December 10, 2013

TUCSON, AZ - A meteor sighting over the Arizona skies caused quite a stir Tuesday night.

From Las Vegas to Tucson to here in the Valley, social media exploded with reports of a bright object streaking across the horizon.

Some even reported hearing a sonic boom.

John Duhigg posted a video on YouTube saying he spotted the meteor when he was driving near Mesa Gateway Airport.

It is not known yet if the meteor hit the ground.

ABC15 Chief Meteorologist Amber Sullins said the meteor was likely part of a rare outburst of the Andromedids.

Look for more meteors in the coming days with the Geminid meteor shower set to peak on Friday and Saturday.
