HAYDEN, AZ - The Arizona Department of Public Safety discovered a copper theft organization Thursday that was stealing metal from a mine in Hayden, Arizona.

Officials said the department's Southern Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit stopped a commercial vehicle on Interstate 10 and found about 48 copper ingots inside the trailer attached to the vehicle.

According to DPS, ingots are large copper plates that weigh about 880 pounds.

DPS searched a home in Marana, Arizona and found 54 more copper ingots inside. Authorities said that the copper thieves stole the ingots from the ASARCO Mining Corporation in Hayden.

The value of the stolen copper is valued at approximately $300,000.
