SONOITA, AZ - Border Patrol agents seized more than $1.4 million worth of marijuana in a truck and arrested two men in association with the drugs Wednesday, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.
An air unit from CBP’s Office of Air and Marine saw a suspicious vehicle in an area known for drug smuggling. They tracked the pickup from overhead and saw it stop. The unit also saw the two suspects leaving the vehicle, according to CBP.
Agents on the ground near Lochiel found the abandoned truck with 119 bundles of marijuana, totaling 2,700 pounds and $1.4 million.
They located the two suspects, both male Mexican nationals, using a canine team and the Air and Marine aircraft, CBP says.
The two men were arrested for narcotics smuggling and the truck and drugs were seized, officials said.
