Brown Fire update: Crews clearing lines to limit spread of fire

SIERRA VISTA, AZ - Firefighters battling a wildfire in the Huachuca  in southeastern Arizona are clearing lines on the fire's flanks to try to keep it from spreading.

The 366-acre Brown Fire is burning timber and grass in steep and rugged terrain in the mountains overlooking Sierra Vista.

A top-level federal management team on Tuesday took over management of the firefighting effort that includes aircraft and five hotshot crews.

No structures are threatened by the fire but authorities have put residents in canyon areas on notice that they might have to evacuate.

Firefighting efforts are hindered by low humidity, high winds and dry conditions from an ongoing drought.

Officials say the fire was human-caused but remains under investigation.
