VIDEO: Babeu addresses rumors, confirms he's gay

FLORENCE, AZ - Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu came out publicly about his sexuality on Saturday after allegations surfaced that he threatened to deport an ex-lover if he told anyone about the relationship.

The allegations were initially reported by the Phoenix New Times and were quickly picked up by other media outlets, prompting Babeu to hold a press conference in Florence Saturday afternoon.

During the 45-minute news conference, Babeu confirmed he is gay and addressed several other rumors about his personal relationship with a man named Jose.

"It's almost as if there's a relief today, almost to not be threatened," Babeu said.
