SUN LAKES, AZ - Sun Lakes homeowners Kevin and Mindy Wiegel were shocked that their 40-foot Eucalyptus tree fell through their roof during Tuesday's storm. Even more so because thy thought they were prepared.
"The thing that upsets me is that I just paid to have this tree de-limbed and debarked to get it ready for the monsoons," said Mindy.
Kevin said right before the tree collapsed he saw a lot of wind and a lot of rain.
"I looked out the front window and it was like I was watching a tornado in Kansas on the news," said Kevin.
He remembers the two of them sitting in the living room, and then hearing a loud thud near their bedroom.
" And that big hole, that big chunk of dry wall dropped. I ran back and told Mindy 'you need to come right now!" said Kevin.
They attempted to put a few buckets on the floor to catch the water before the fire department showed up, but the damage was already done.
"You see it on TV, but you don't think about it happening to yourself," he said. The couple said they are covered with home insurance. They expect repairs to take a while.
