HYDER, AZ - A 10-year-old boy is in stable condition after a school bus ran him over Wednesday morning, according to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.
YCSO spokesman Alfonso Zavala said the boy was reportedly trying to catch the bus just after 7 a.m. at the stop in the 14000 block of North Avenue 74E.
As he ran alongside the bus, the driver didn't notice the boy and "inadvertently ran him over," the police report said.
The driver did not notice she struck the boy and continued her usual route, according to Zavala. The boy's brother saw him lying in the road, picked him up and took him home.
A grandparent then took the injured boy to Dateland Elementary School, where a paramedic is stationed, to get help.
The boy was then flown to a Phoenix hospital and is now in stable condition, Zavala said.
The bus driver was reportedly made aware of the incident, which was ruled an accident, when she arrived at the elementary school.
