WENDEN, AZ - Arizona and La Paz County officials found what they call a "large and sophisticated" marijuana field Tuesday morning, discovering thousands of plants near Wenden, Arizona.
Detectives from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Drug Enforcement Administration and La Paz County Narcotics Task Force found around 4,500 marijuana plants grown with a complex irrigation system and security fence.
The one-acre field contained plants that were between two and five feet high, estimated to produce around 400 pounds of marijuana, according to a news release.
Officials estimate the marijuana would have a street value in Arizona of approximately $100,000.
Along the east coast, the same amount of marijuana could sell for three times that price, according to a news release.
After discovery, the plants within the marijuana field were destroyed.
