Officers arrest smuggler with heroin in shoes at Arizona border

SAN LUIS, AZ - A 23-year-old man was arrested Monday in southern Arizona for allegedly trying to smuggle heroin across the border in his shoes.

Customs and Border Protection says the U.S citizen, who currently lives in Mexico was referred for an inspection of his vehicle where a narcotics canine alerted to the presence of drugs in the driver’s shoes.

CBP officers removed the insoles which contained heroin worth $25,400.

The drugs and vehicle were seized and the suspect was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
