Officers arrest man allegedly attempting to smuggle meth into US in gas tank

SAN LUIS, AZ - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a 30-year-old Valley man Wednesday as he allegedly attempted to smuggle 21 pounds of methamphetamine into the U.S.

Authorities stopped a Ford truck driven by the suspect for further inspection at the San Luis Port of Entry after a detection canine alerted officers to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, CBP said.

After inspecting the vehicle, officers located 20 packages of crystal meth in the gas tank worth nearly $324,000.

Authorities seized the vehicle and referred the suspect to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
