GILA BEND, AZ - Authorities are investigating after a body was found in the desert in Gila Bend on Sunday.
Detectives with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office responded to a desert area off Interstate 8 early in the morning for a report of a body found.
Sheriff's authorities say the location is less than a mile away from where bodies were found last week.
A preliminary report indicates the body is that of a male with no identification which has been "subjected to the harsh desert elements," according to MCSO.
According to an MCSO news release, the sheriff's office has investigated five deaths in the past 10 days, making a total of 15 since June in and around Gila Bend, an area known for human trafficking.
Authorities also say sheriff's deputies have been involved in over 30 rescues in the same area this summer.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio has promised that his deputies will place crosses made by Tent City Jail inmates in the areas where bodies are found.
All the crosses will be numbered and have GPS coordinates linked to those numbers which will help deputies locate future border crossers who call 911 for help.
