A wrong-way driver was booked into jail on a DUI charge after a crash along the Interstate 10 near Ahwatukee overnight.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety told ABC15 that 70-year-old Joel Orris Lerbakken was headed eastbound in the westbound lanes when the crash occurred. His Jeep crashed into a woman driving a white SUV near Riggs Road.

Fortunately, one of the drivers swerved before the crash so most of the damage was to the side of the SUV instead of head-on damage.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries and did not need to be taken to the hospital.

Officials say Lerbakken was booked into jail on charges of DUI, endangerment and criminal damage.

Westbound lanes were restricted for a short time for the crash investigation.
