Historic Greer Lodge Resort and Cabins in eastern Arizona closes its doors

GREER, AZ - After more than six decades, the landmark Greer Lodge Resort and Cabins in eastern Arizona has shut its doors.

The lodge's web page Monday stated that it's now closed and directed anyone with reservations to download a refund request form.

A May 2011 fire destroyed the main lodge and a restaurant at the resort, located about 220 miles northeast of Phoenix.

Federal investigators said the fire was arson caused and damage was estimated at more than $2 million.

The resort was originally built in 1948. It was in the midst of an extensive refurbishing project at the time of the fire.

The closure of the lodge and its related business, which include the 373 Grill and Red Setter Inn, means more than 100 people will be left without jobs.
