NOGALES, AZ - The Soldier Basin fire has now consumed 10,000 acres of land, but firefighters have contained more than half the blaze as of Thursday.
The suspected human-caused fire is burning in the Patagonia Mountains near Nogales. More than 200 firefighters are working to contain the fire, according to a press release.
As of Thursday, 55 percent of the fire had been contained.
Crews are planning to secure a perimeter Thursday and continue patrolling for "hot spots." Officials said the south perimeter is already safe and only a few spots of smoke remain.
Fire officials are advising anyone traveling into Soldier Basin should expect delays. If possible, fire crews want the public to avoid the area.
