Parts of Gold Canyon experienced damage from monsoon storms that rolled through the area on Monday night.

Video from Air15 and ABC15 ground crews in the area found downed trees -- some on top of crushed cars -- and muddy streets, along with a heavily damaged home under construction.

ABC15 Meteorologist Iris Hermosillo confirmed that Gold Canyon residents experienced downburst winds and some heavy rainfall during the storm. Downburst winds are strong to severe winds that rush out of the base of storms that spread out in all directions.

The National Weather Service says the width of these downburst winds measured out to be about two miles wide, technically making it a microburst. Iris Hermosillo says wind gusts peaked between 58 and 69 miles per hour.

The damage was likely caused by the downburst winds and rainfall combination.
