Bleeding toddler found in driveway in S. Arizona, detectives investigate

PIMA COUNTY, AZ - A 2-year-old child was found lying in a driveway with a bleeding head injury on Tuesday. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says the boy is currently receiving treatment and remains in stable condition.

Rural Metro Fire Department received the initial notification and its responding ambulance rushed the child to a local trauma center at approximately 7:41 a.m.

Multiple investigative units with the Pima County Sheriff's Department sent their detectives to the scene, including the Sheriff's Traffic, Homicide and Crimes Against Children units. This multidisciplinary response was chosen to provide the investigation with the best possible expertise in determining what caused the injuries the child suffered.

Investigators found tire marks on the child's clothing. The injuries he suffered are consistent with injuries resulting from being hit by a vehicle. Several vehicles were investigated and processed for evidence, but no physical evidence linked any of them to the accident.

The Sheriff's Traffic Unit currently has the lead in the investigation. Other disciplines are staying involved as the investigation continues to cover multiple angles.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department is urging anyone with information that could help further the investigation to call 911 or 88-CRIME.

No charges have been filed at this time.
