BAGDAD, AZ - Arizona Game & Fish officials shot and killed a bear wandering around a small mining town Wednesday.
Darren Tucker, field supervisor for Arizona Game and Fish Department, said the department received a phone call Wednesday from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office about a Black bear wandering around a Bagdad neighborhood.
Bagdad is located roughly 120 miles northwest of Phoenix.
The bear was reportedly trying to get into homes, into baseball fields and parks, according to Tucker.
Officials attempted to trap the bear, but were unsuccessful. Later they were able to locate the bear and put it down because of its risk to public safety, according to Tucker.
Game and Fish estimate the bear to be between 3-4 years old, however, analysis is being done to determine its exact age.
Tucker said the 180-pound bear was originally caught and tagged on July 18, 2013 near Bagdad and was re-located about 100 miles away.
No other details were released.
