Body found inside Kansas City freezer identified as missing truck driver from Arizona

KANSAS CITY, KS - Authorities confirm the body found inside a freezer in Kansas City belongs to a missing Arizona truck driver who disappeared last fall.

Lawrence Muirhead, 53, was reported missing in October. His tractor trailer was abandoned near the intersection of Antioch Road and Shawnee Mission Parkway in Merriam.

An anonymous tip led police to the gruesome discovery of the body in a garage near 20th Street and New Jersey Avenue Sunday. Because it was frozen, investigators said it was not clear how long it had been there.

Muirhead's sister, Christina Walden, confirmed Wednesday the family had been contacted by KCK police about the connection. Police confirmed Muirhead’s identity Thursday morning.

Family members said someone who ate dinner with Muirhead the night before he disappeared recently came forward and may have information helpful to the investigation.

Muirhead was on his way to Nogales, Ariz., from Franklin, Pa. He was expected to arrive in Nogales on Oct. 1, 2013. When he did not arrive at his destination, his family called police to report him missing.
