$485,000 worth of heroin and methamphetamine were seized near Nogales after tractor was searched

NOGALES - Authorities seized more than $485,000 worth of heroin and methamphetamine at the Port of Nogales on Saturday after a tractor was referred to additional inspection.

The tractor, driven by a 27-year-old Mexican national, contained 44 packages of methamphetamine worth more than $131,000, and 10 packages of both black tar and brown heroin, worth more than $354,000, within the smoke-stack mufflers, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.

The drugs weighed about 60 pounds and were seized, along with the tractor, by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mariposa crossing.

The 27-year-old was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
