NOGALES, Ariz. - Police and federal authorities made a large seizure of weapons and ammunition in Nogales last week.
According to Nogales police officials, the department got information that a residence within the City of Nogales was a drop location for smuggling operations.
In a joint operation between the Nogales Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations, a search was done of the residence where authorities seized 43 assault rifles of various make, model and configuration were seized.
In addition, more than 19,000 rounds of 7.62 ammunition, 41 high capacity magazines and 286.3 pounds of marijuana were confiscated.
The marijuana was estimated to have a street value of $143,000.
Officials say the seizure is significant in preventing these items crossing into Mexico and getting into the hands of trafficking organizations.
There was no word on any arrests.
The investigation is ongoing.
