2,500 pounds of marijuana as well as three guns were found in a Rio Rico stash house

NOGALES, AZ - Two Mexican men were taken into custody Wednesday for allegedly storing 2,500 pounds of marijuana and three firearms in a Rio Rico stash house.

Jose Luis Dominguez de la Rosa, 46, and Paul Chavez-Portillo, 25, were charged with felony possession of marijuana for sale and felony weapons misconduct according to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement news release. 

After receiving a telephone tip Tuesday about a residence in Rio Rico being used to smuggle drugs, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office sent task force members.

Dominguez de la Rosa and Chavez-Portillo took off running when the investigators arrived. They were quickly apprehended according to the report.

After obtaining a search warrant, the task force members entered the house and found 2,500 pounds of marijuana stacked in bales and three different types of guns. 

Dominguez de la Rosa and Chavez-Portillo made their initial appearance in Santa Cruz County court on Wednesday.

The case remains under investigation.
