MARICOPA, AZ - The Pinal County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of illegal immigrants running through a neighborhood outside of Maricopa on Saturday.
According to PCSO, callers reported seeing 10 to 30 illegal immigrants running through a neighborhood near the 51000 block of West Jennifer Road south of Maricopa.
The callers said the illegal immigrants were knocking on doors asking for food and water.
PCSO was able to locate five of the individuals and one backpack filled with marijuana. All of the other individuals were never located.
All of the men admitted to crossing the border through Sonora, Mexico.
The five individuals caught admitted they were in the United States illegally, PCSO said.
One of the men was previously arrested for DUI in California and was deported. He was planning to return to California again.
According to PCSO, 36-year-old Carlos Antonio-Grijalva was booked into Pinal County Jail for Possession of Marijuana. He said he found found two bundles of marijuana while walking through the desert and decided to carry them. The bundles weighed 37 pounds, with a street value of $27,000.
The other individuals were turned over to Border Patrol.
