MARICOPA, AZ - Pinal County animal control officers seized six emaciated dogs they found at a home in a rural area southwest of Maricopa.
County officials say one dog was nearly dead. It was seized and taken to a vet for treatment April 1. Officers provided food to other dogs also in various stages of starvation.
Officials say nobody was home when officers first visited but that an officer returned and spoke to the owner who claimed to feed the dogs daily.
According to county officials, officers saw no sign of that being done.
Officials say officers ended up seizing a total of six dogs. Results of the investigation are being submitted to the county attorney's office for consideration of possible prosecution on potential charges of animal cruelty and neglect.
